Sealed

A shared budget for couples, without shared passwords

By Andrew Boyko · Updated Nov 2026

You do not need one login for two people. You need one plan, honest numbers and a weekly check-in.

Shared money without shared passwords

Many couples end up passing one login back and forth, or giving one person all the visibility. A better pattern is a shared plan with separate access. You agree on the envelopes and amounts together, one person keeps the records, and you both look at the same numbers once a week.

A weekly 20-minute check-in

  1. Minutes 0–5: totals. Read out what is left in each envelope. No commentary yet.
  2. Minutes 5–10: surprises. Anything unexpected this week? Say it once, without blame.
  3. Minutes 10–15: move money. Rebalance. Overspent Groceries? Decide where the money comes from.
  4. Minutes 15–20: look ahead. What is coming next week that needs cash?

Which envelopes to share

Doing it with Sealed today

Right now Sealed fits one person's phone. A practical couple setup: one partner keeps the shared budget in Sealed and shows the screen at the weekly check-in, while the other keeps a personal envelope in their own copy. Shared envelopes over iCloud are planned for the iOS release, but nothing is promised until it ships. If live sync between two phones is a must today, see the Goodbudget comparison.

New to the method? Start with the envelope budgeting guide and split your next paycheck with the paycheck splitter.

FAQ

Does Sealed support shared budgets?

Not yet. The web build stores data on one device. Shared envelopes using iCloud are planned for the iOS version; no date is promised.

Can we share one phone's data?

You can export a JSON backup from one phone and restore it on the other, but that is a snapshot, not live sync.

What is the simplest way to budget as a couple?

One person owns the budget, and you hold a 20-minute check-in every week. Shared visibility matters more than shared logins.
